Dandelions are the first “flower” that pops up each Spring, well in Manitoba for sure. You either love them or hate them it seems. Personally, I love them! They add a splash of colour and they keep the bees and my kids super happy. Besides picking and making wishes you can do some fun crafts with them to keep the kids extra entertained. You can plan a fun morning or afternoon activity by grabbing a few items from around your house and picking some dandelions. To me if you can keep the kids entertained and creative it’s a total win! Lion Dandelion Craft
Supplies Needed
- Cardboard
- Marker or pencil
- Single Hole Puncher (Or screwdriver)
- Scissors
- Tape
- Dandelions
Directions
- First you need some cardboard, I personally used an old amazon box! Try and get a plain piece with no markings or tape.
- Once you have this grab a pencil or a marker and draw a cute lions face. You can really do ANY animal you desire.
- Once you have your cute Lion drawn, cut him out!
- Use your single hole punch OR screwdriver to punch holes in the Lions mane. I used a screwdriver since I only had a three hole punch and felt that wouldn’t work as well. Ensure you poke the holes all the way through to allow the dandelions to fit through easily.
- Hit up a dandelion filled area! We went to the local park but we also could have just done this in our own backyard.
- Have your kids pick dandelions and stick them into the holes, if they are little you may need to help them them. I suggest having some tape on hand to help tape the backs down as well! Something I wish I had brought along.
- You can use other wild flowers too! My daughter used pussy toes and purple violets as well in hers. Stick them into the holes and create a fuzzy flower mane for your lion!
- Have them fill every hole with dandelions (or other flowers) and watch your cardboard Lion become a fuzzy adorable friend to show off!
There you have it! A super fun and creative way to play with dandelions! Of course they don’t last forever so make sure you take some cute photos to save the memory. Once the dandelions are done, simply pull them out and reuse your lion again! Let me know below if you created one of these. Happy crafting!
